Maria de la Pau Janer is a doctor of Philology and a professor at the Universitat de les Illes Balears. She presents cultural programmes on radio and television and her work also often appears in the written press. Her most recent novels have consolidated her place as one of the most appreciated and read of contemporary novelists. In 2005 she won the Planeta Prize with Pasiones romanas, which was translated into six languages. Las mujeres que hay en mi was a finalist for the 2002 Premio Planeta. She has also published Màrmara (Premio Sant Joan de Novela 1993), Oriente, Occidente (Finalist of the Premio Sant Jordi 1997), Lola (Ramon Llull Prize 1999) and Eres mi vida, eres mi muerte (2001).
